Top 3 Summer things to do in London

Top 3 Summer things to do in London

The weather is heating up in London and it is undoubtedly one of the most popular times of the year to visit the city.

Whether you are visiting the city for leisure or you are coming to London for training, there are many things to do and see. These 3 tips are for things that are perfect to do before or after your training, in some cases even on the day of your training. These are experiences that are unique to Summertime in London so please take note, so you don’t miss out!

1. Watch the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace

The changing of the guards is a ceremony that takes place almost every day throughout Summer at 11:00 am at Buckingham Palace. The ceremony takes place as The Queen’s Guard hands over the responsibility of protecting Buckingham Palace to the new guard. It is a change of hands marked by a spectacular display!

There is a wonderful live music performance from either the Regimental Bands or the Corps of Drums, the days can vary as to which bands provide the musical support.

Definitely worth checking out if you are here on the weekend before or after your training course.

2. Take a stroll through Hyde Park

It is no secret that Hyde Park is a wonderful place to visit in Summer to escape the hustle, bustle and heat of the city.

Similar to an oasis in the middle of the city the park is a retreat for busy Londoners on their lunchbreak or on the weekends to relax. Why not try this retreat yourself? Open from 5 am in the morning until midnight, there are many tube stations surrounding Hyde Park making it easy to access the park.

Some ideas to enjoy Hyde Park could include taking a picnic and blanket to sit on the grass and enjoy the sun, taking a book to read in the outdoors, hire a bike to ride or even just enjoy a leisurely walk through the park.

A great place to visit before or after training for the day to relax and enjoy the sun.

3. Visit the wildlife at ZSL London Zoo

Although the ZSL London Zoo is open all year round, Summer is definitely a great time to go in order to see the animals catching the sun rays as well as to enjoy walking around outdoors yourself. Enclosures and displays include Penguin Beach, Land of the Lions and Gorilla Kingdom. There are also daily events to see including feeding times, animal in action shows and meet the keeper talks. Please check the website for these daily timetables.

The ZSL London Zoo is located  in Regent’s Park, London and is open from 10 am – 6 pm with the last entry being 5 pm. Tickets are approximately £25 and can be purchased online or in advanced.

You may want to dedicate a whole day to the Zoo if you have booked extra days to explore the city before or after your training, but it is also possible to explore the Zoo for a half day perhaps after one of your training sessions.
