Leadership is changing.

The organisational behavioural models of the last century are becoming outmoded in today’s fast paced and technologically driven environment.

You may have heard terms like…

Laissez-Faire Leadership.
Autocratic Leadership.
Participative Leadership.

Where leadership was vested in an individual, and leaders led, and the rest of the organisation followed….leadership was something done to staff, not done for and with staff.

We’ve seen a shift from….

Transactional Leadership – the more traditional management functions to
Transformational Leadership with more space for leaders to deploy visionary thinking, creativity and nuance.

Most leaders have 2-3 preferred styles, within the Goleman model of leadership – the commander, the affiliative leader, the coach, the democratic leader, the pacesetter and the visionary. Most leaders “gravitate” to one style, but there is no one “best” style.

Ask the experienced leader, and the common understanding is that we must use what is best described as ‘Adaptive Leadership.’ The ability to know the right style to use, depending on the people involved, the personalities, the business context and the urgency or importance of a situation.

An organisation or team’s performance is influenced by the traits, values and personality of the leaders. We start from this point, helping leaders and potential leaders do the important work of defining the type of leader they naturally are, identifying their leadership strengths and helping your leaders understand how they can become more resilient, effective and develop leadership flair to help their teams to achieve excellence in performance.

The organisations’ leadership sets the tone of the organisation’s culture, mission, vision, values, work environment, recognition, employee satisfaction and business performance. The right leaders can make or break an organisation.
