Overview
Course Outline
Scheduled Dates
Irrespective of the industry concerned, automotive, aerospace, petrochemical, process, production and manufacturing, lubricants are a critical and ‘invisible’ component responsible for the smooth running of either simple or complex machinery, equipment, systems and so forth. Importantly, as advanced technologies become more and more prevalent, the efficiency of lubricants and, thus equipment also becomes critical.
The essential function of any lubricant creates a physical interface between moving parts to provide a frictionless or, more practically, a reduction in friction between moving parts of the equipment in question—a typical example being automotive valves.
In addition, to providing a reduction in friction, lubricants also act in several other ways, namely: to prevent or mitigate wear of moving parts, wear prevention and/or wear, as a cooling medium and to minimise the effects of internal corrosion and cyclic fatigue.
By the end of this comprehensive training program, participants will be able to:
- Understand lubricants' purpose, functions, and significance in various industrial applications.
- Knowledge of international codes, standards, and regulations related to lubricant production and usage to ensure quality and safety.
- Identify health and safety requirements in lubricant manufacturing and usage and understand their importance in protecting workers and the environment.
- Learn about different types of lubricants, their classifications, and the processes involved in their production and manufacturing.
- Evaluate the materials used in lubricants, focusing on their reliability and performance in different operating conditions.
- Understand lubrication theory and the fundamentals of tribology, including the mechanisms of wear and how lubricants help mitigate these effects.
- Apply lubrication principles to meet wear criteria and extend the machinery and equipment life.
- Acquire skills in designing and selecting lubricants tailored to specific industrial applications and performance needs.
- Understand the critical role of health and safety management systems in the lubricant industry and how to implement best practices effectively.
- Develop the ability to make informed decisions regarding lubricant selection, application, and maintenance for optimal equipment performance and longevity.
