5 factors to consider when choosing a training course.

Do you need help choosing a training course?

Picking a training course can be extremely exciting as well as being overwhelming and confusing. With so many great options out there, it can be difficult to choose a training course and to decide if it is the right one for you.

At London Training for Excellence we understand picking the right course can be difficult, so to get you started we have put together a list of 5 factors that you need to consider when choosing your training course.

1. What are your professional career goals?

Before choosing a training course you need to consider what your professional career goals are in general and what you hope to achieve as a result from undertaking this training.

Training is a great way to ensure that you can achieve your professional career goals, but what are they? Many people have different motivations for training, and it is important to have an end goal when choosing your training course to ensure that your training outcomes will align with your career goals.

2. What learning outcomes do you want to achieve?

As well as looking at the overall big picture of what you want to achieve as a result of your training you will also need to consider what learning outcomes you want to achieve from your training.

What specific learning objectives do you need to achieve for the training to be relevant and contribute to your professional goals? Do you need to achieve technical or soft skills? Is there a specific accreditation or certificate title you are aiming to achieve? Whatever it may be, be sure that you are choosing a training course that will fulfil this.

3. What skills do you want to learn?

Breaking down the details even more, apart from learning objectives and outcomes, what specific skills do you want to learn and improve on? Training courses may appear to have similar learning outcomes, but some specific skills may differ depending on the topics as well as the course outline and structure.

If there are specific skills, you would like to be able to add to your CV make sure you read through the course outlines and speak to a training consultant in order clarify what skills you will be learning.

4. What date and time will suit you?

Although this may sound too obvious, do not take the “right” time for training for granted.  Although you may be available for training at a particular time and date, it does not necessarily mean that this time will suit you as an individual.

A proposed time or date may be a busy period of time for you in general or you may have a lot of personal or social commitments on at the same time. Don’t be afraid to schedule your training for a time that is suitable for you to be able to focus on the training without being stressed out whilst away from the office or from home. You need to be able to focus on the training to get the best experience out of it and this requires you to be in a training course at a suitable time that works for you.

5. What location is right for you?

You may have finally chosen a training course, but the next question is where to have it? It is great to have so many locations to choose from but again it can be difficult to know what the right choice is.

In general, choosing your location will need to depend on what distance you are willing to travel as well as what location you are inspired to travel to.

If you are willing and able to why not consider training in a different city that you have always wanted to visit. You will be able to see the city in your spare time outside of training and experience a new culture. This will do nothing but add to and compliment your whole training experience.
