5 steps to mastering 3D Printing June 9, 2017
What is 3D printing?
3-D printing is a manufacturing process that builds layers to create a three–dimensional solid object from a digital model. The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive process an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the object is created. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal cross-section of the eventual object.
In 3D printing the object details, such as its shape and structure, are outlined using computer aided design (CAD) software or a digital scanning device. The details are stored in the computer, which determines how the 3D printer will create the desired object.
We have put together 5 steps to mastering 3D printing:
-
Get to know your printer - test the printer’s production speed, test out all the different settings, try printing different shapes with different settings so that you start to understand your printer.
-
Make sure you’ve got the right software.
-
Do not print with a badly calibrated printer. Some printers are even delivered while not properly tuned, and price is not always a safe indicator! Check that everything is square, that the pulleys or belts are not lose and that the bed is level.
-
Persistence, perhaps this is stating the obvious but there is no miracle when it comes to 3D printing. Getting failed prints one after another can be demoralising but see each failure as an opportunity to learn and you'll soon get perfect prints.

To further your knowledge and understanding we suggest you look in to 3D printer training or 3D printing courses.
