What is computational fluid dynamics?
Computational fluid dynamics is the usage of applied mathematics, physics and computational software to picture how gas and liquid flows also to see how the gas or liquid affects objects as it passes through. Fluid dynamics are based on the Navier-Stokes equations, the equation looks at how the velocity, temperature, pressure and density are related to moving fluids.
Computational fluid dynamics have been in use since the early 20th century and are usually used to analyse air flow around cars and aircrafts. Server rooms have evolved over the years and have become increasingly complex; CFD is very useful to detect thermal properties and modelling air flow.
Software can help an IT administrator to identify hot spots and learn where the cold air is being wasted and where the air is mixing. A change in the variable, the IT administrator will visualise how the cold air will travel through the server room under many different situations. This knowledge will help the administrator layout exactly where the IT infrastructure will be placed around the office. A CFD programme could simulate changes such as split hard drives and let you know how to place them and where to place them, this help you save time and money.
