Overview ImageCourse Overview

Historically, the exploration, production and delivery of fossil-based fuels have long been established and used in the power generation, transportation and process industries.

The transition into a new energy production and usage era has seen a substantive movement into renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and wave energy. In addition, Hydrogen is also seen as an energy source of the future. Renewable hydrogen will also deliver the flexibility required to meet the requirements of an energy system undoubtedly in transition.

The application of hydrogen will play an essential role in displacing carbon emissions to support and potentially achieve the so-called ‘Net-Zero’ ambitions proposed by institutions and governments worldwide.

Many examples of hydrogen production, processing, storage and transport are currently in play.

In particular, transport is responsible for substantive carbon emissions. In contrast, smaller vehicles have demonstrated to use electric batteries; larger vehicles are much harder to decarbonise owing to the increased size and weight of the batteries needed.

Notwithstanding this, by using hydrogen fuel cell technologies, it is possible to decarbonise them using hydrogen as its power source in achieving zero-carbon.

Hydrogen is currently enjoying significant momentum in terms of research and development, projects, and technical, commercial and political advances around the world; with scale-up of technologies enhances substantial cost reductions to be made.

Objective:

  • Understand the global need for decarbonization and the role of hydrogen in achieving it.
  • Explore the global industry outlook for hydrogen and its role in various energy applications.
  • Learn about hydrogen's chemistry and the different production, processing, and storage methodologies.
  • Gain insight into hydrogen transportation methods and carbon capture technologies.
  • Study fuel cell technologies and their main applications in the energy sector.
