Course Overview

Corrosion is an insidious attack on operational oil and gas assets; with its associated cost to the industry which runs into several billions of dollars each year.

The aggressive and harsh conditions in which operational assets are required to perform whether within an onshore, offshore or subsea environment demands the need for correct and robust materials selection design and selection in addition to understanding the corrosion types and mechanisms which influence both the internal and external asset condition, and thus their operational performance. In this way, by controlling and managing such factors the risk of asset functional failure can be minimised and thus the impact against human life, the environment and business reputation.

Objective:

This course will explain and illustrate in detail those corrosion fundamentals within oil and gas operations, together with the tools and techniques employed to control and manage corrosion through correct materials and corrosion strategies and management, corrosion monitoring systems, use of chemical treatment and management, cathodic protection and coatings.
