What does it take to be a great leader?

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a great leader? What it takes to become a great leader?

We all have people that we look up to and therefore people we believe are great leaders, but what makes these people great leaders?

Leadership is hard to define and there are lots of different definitions. It is even harder to define a great leader.

At London TFE we have a wealth of knowledgeable trainers and so we have asked some of our training professionals for their perspective of what great leadership is, to help share professional perspectives and to discuss some common themes of great leadership.

Our trainer Ian, described in a previous blog post that great leadership is a mix of the following attributes:

  1. Being trusted by your colleagues.
  2. Being positive in the face of adversity.
  3. Helping others to achieve their goals.
  4. Being able to make tough decisions.

For another of our professional London TFE trainers, Lesley, the definition of a great leader is different again.

Lesley believes a great leader is some one that, “sets a framework, provides a vision and gives their staff the tools to enable them to be the best that they can be.” Lesley believes that a great leader, “encourages staff, challenges them and supports them to deliver performance, that then delivers organisational performance.”

With varying definitions, it is clear that there is no single definition of a great leader. So, what can you do to become a great leader?
